Dutch Iris in Palest, Pearlescent Pink

Description

Iris is a genus of 260–300 species of flowering plants with showy flowers. It takes its name from the Greek word for a rainbow, which is also the name for the Greek goddess of the rainbow, Iris. Some authors state that the name refers to the wide variety of flower colors found among the many species. Nature never ceases to amaze me, and here is just one reason why. This Dutch Iris in the palest of pinks, with its luminescent petals, has amazing shape and form. The yellow spot is like a huge flag, waving to any pollinating insects passing by, and fat bees can be seen stumbling around, drunk on their nectar. Native to Portugal, Spain and North Africa, widely grown in UK gardens.
